 Former player of the Dutch national team Andy van der Meyde, who left professional football at the age of 31, told to the press about problems with alcohol and drugs when he was playing for "Everton".

- When I was playing for "Ayax" and "Inter" I haven’t been drinking alcohol at all - he says. - Other players went to nightclubs, and I did not even know about the existence of such places. But everything has changed when I moved to "Everton". At the same time I had problems with my wife, relationship with the my coach was ruined, and I started to drink, and then I moved on to cocaine.

According to his words, he could quit his addiction only when he backed to the Netherlands.

- one day I realized that staying in Liverpool will kill me, - he said. - I had to return home. Dropping everything, I went to Holland and three days later I have signed a contract with PSV.
